Solving problems through therapy
Anyone can come to therapy. You may be trying to figure out what to do in a very specific area of your life. Perhaps, you have a generalized need for trying to increase your happiness and life satisfaction. If this is the case, you can benefit from therapy.
You can have both long-term and short-term goals. You are in full control as to how you want to utilize therapy.
Therapy is the exact tool you are looking for to become more satisfied, happier, and peaceful.
Not what you thought
Gone are the days of reclining on a couch while blaming your parents for your difficulties.
Therapy is about solving your problems in a way that is going to move you along in a positive direction. Therapy is for you and about you. The tools and skills you receive and learn to use through therapy is up to you.
Therapy is an interactive process. Think of the therapist as a guide and a partner along your journey.
Step into my office.
Welcome to my office! From the onset, my priority is to make sure you feel welcomed and comfortable. Take off your shoes and grab a Fiji water.
Our first discussion will focus on what brings you to my office. I will gather background information from the intake form that you bring to my office. This helps us focus on your needs and what is happening in your life right now.
I’m involved in every step, leading when you need it and walking along next to you in your journey. We work together to figure out what is blocking you from achieving your goals. Once we can define these blocks, we can devise a plan.
Initially, we will meet weekly for 50-60 minutes. As your problems improve, we will meet bi-weekly and then monthly.
My goal is to get you out the door – not keep you in therapy for ever. Everyone is different and needs various lengths of time. Some people come for a few months, while others can come for a few years. It depends on what problems you want to work through.
Traveling through the journey
Remember my mission as a therapist is to help you help yourself. I’m a guide and an educator dedicated to providing you with information. The more information you have, the better decisions you can make. Knowledge is power!
You already possess the tools necessary to have a successful life. I will teach you the skills necessary to effectively use those tools.
I am very devoted to my patients and view my position as a therapist as an honor. To help someone through their most difficult times and to have someone’s trust are things I hold with high value.
Something about me
I received an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Lynchburg in Lynchburg, Virginia. Later, I earned my Master’s degree from the University of Baltimore in Baltimore, Maryland, with extra training through the University of Baltimore and John’s Hopkins University.
After receiving board certification as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2001 in Maryland, I established practice in Virginia in 2013.
My personal life consists of two children and my husband of 20 years. Chocolate, my wonderful kitty, provides pleasant distractions and comfort. Everyone loves her so much that they ask if they can take her home.
Some of my personal activities include traveling, bike riding, walking, gardening, sea glass hunting, and playing games with my family.
